Embodying Community: Climate Change, Consciousness and Cultural Trauma

Alastair McIntosh has been described as one of the world’s leading environmental campaigners, best known for his work on land reform, climate change and spirituality. An honorary professor in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow, his books include _Soil and Soul_ (Aurum 2001) about rebuilding community with the land, _Poacher’s Pilgrimage _(Birlinn 2016) about the spirituality and ecology of the imagination, and most recently, _Riders on the Storm: The Climate Crisis and the Survival of Being _(Birlinn 2020) about the science and human calling that our most pressing global problem invokes. A human ecologist, he was raised on the Hebridean Isle of Lewis in a traditional community. Today he lives in Govan, a hard-pressed area of the city of Glasgow. From here, a mile from his home, the leaders of the world will gather in November 2021 for the United Nations’ COP 26 climate change summit.
