Ma te huruhuru, kia rere te manu. Adorn the bird with feathers to enable it to fly.
I would like to say I come from a long line of chiefs, but actually I come from a long line of ordinary people. My ancestors are Maori (indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand), Scottish and English. The colonised and the coloniser all held within me. I am the sum of my Tupuna/Ancestors. How I share my gifts with the world comes from the depth of my connection with Te Po and Te Ao/the dark and the light. I was born into statehouses, surrounded by gorse bush and manuka; both prickly and resourceful. Through Open Floor Movement Practice, Maori Cuture and Creativity I teach a grounded spirituality.
Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngā Ruahine ngā iwi.
Ko Kaia Hawkins ahau.
