Understanding the systems of racism and other systemic injustices on a cognitive level is not enough. If we are only approaching our efforts to dismantle injustices such as racism from a cognitive level, then our reactions will always remain rooted in the systems we claim we oppose.
But if we can dismantle this conditioning from a somatic perspective, then we have opportunities to radically change our individual lives, as well as the cultural framework. To truly evolve as a culture, we have to understand how these systems influence our experience in our bodies.
In understanding how the body is shaped by culture, we then have an opportunity to understand the ways developing a relationship of ease and awareness in the body can in turn shape the culture we live in.
The body is shaped and changed by culture, but being embodied means we are able to shape and change culture.
