This session will discuss some ways in which martial arts practice might be used to teach anti-violence values, focusing on understandings of ‘violation’ and ‘consent’, to young people. Adopting a critical stance on the notion that martial arts training always leads to positive social-psychological outcomes, the presentation will review past research and argue for a coherently planned and executed style of delivery in order to meet these particular goals.
