Acture, an archaic word which means “action”, as well as terminology which Moshe Feldenkrais used in lieu of “posture”, to make reference to how well we carry our bodies in space as we go through life, is an idea I would like to borrow here, to begin a deep study into the intricate play amongst inner supportive structures during the various tasks imposed on our body by gravity and other related forces of nature. Such play is dance.
In the study and practice of contact improvisation, I have become aware that gravity and the ground are my silent partners in the dance. It has also broadened my point of view to look deeper into the dances of different peoples, especially those who are not “professionally trained” to be labeled as “dancers”. The subtleties always fascinate.
If you are curious to find out about your inner dance and open to sharing the experience with me and others who are present, you are welcome to participate in this 50-minute deep dive facilitated by me, using imageries with references to biomechanical phenomena and beyond during our movement journey. We may go into realms beyond physicality, but let us remember to start from the ground up and always bring it back to the ground!
